So...now I've got two possible IT-support jobs in the works, and one carer type of gig (sixth form med school ftw) I could do for a bit alongside the work I do at the school.
And I've also applied for a bunch of other jobs wot I haven't recieved any replies to yet. Things are bound to work themselves out sooner or later. Just as long as I can keep the government from fucking up my life by signing me up for some work program (even though I have a job and that).
Anyways, that's that. I'm also finishing up a course in software testing. Seems kind of a fun thing to work with, I'd love doing that, even applied for a position doing it at some company.
Ever worked with that kind of thing, Barbie?
And also: sup?

Woo. Just got some info on one of the It-thingies. If I get it I'll be making more money than I would at the travel-booking people. It sounds awesome as well, gonna be tinkering with hardware-on site on top of the phone bits.

Never really been involved in specialistor benchmark testing, only unit and system testing for programs/systems that I've developed, having to put together test plans and that.
Personally, I think you've got to be quite anal to be a good quality tester, but each to they're own...

Rite, went to the interview for one of the IT-support gigs. the interview went well, I pwned it, but then they made me take a test, to see what I knew about networking and stuff.
It started off well: "How many bits to a byte" - 8 "How fast is 8Mbit/s in MB/s" - 1
(Me- Yeah, this is easy, pwnage)
Then comes "which of these fit in to these descriptions" Router, Switch, Hub, at which point I mixed up switches with bridges.
After that I was messing up left and right. Kinda got the traceroute and IPConfig questions right if with something missing, maybe (dunno if my explanation of what a ping is flies), described modems more or less correctly, and I did know what makes a valid IP. But I couldn't think of a good definition of TCP or UDP, or describe the difference between them, and I couldn't remember what duplex meant, and my description of ADSL was sketchy to say the least. Couldn't remember which ports are used by what procotcol either, beyond HTTP.
I did manage to describe Apache, Linux, NVidia, PCI and ISA correctly.
In short, I dunno if they'll hire me, wot with me getting maybe half of it right. Tricky test that. She did say no one ever got all of it right, though, that she'd seen.

I've fashioned this cunning diagram on how I did at the test, where each line represents a question, a + where I reckon I got something right, and a - where I didn't, enjoy:
++ ---- + ++ + +--- ---- ---- ---- +++ ++ +- --

Of course, i could have pwned it with just a quick spin round the internets beforehand, if I'd thought of it.

Looks like I'm getting that job anyways, gonna talk to them one final time on monday.
So I guess that may be that, as far as my near-unemployment goes.
If I can, I might hold out for the other one, 'cos that's better paid, and in this city, as opposed to this one wot's like an hour away, but most likely I'm accepting this. I'll have access to the internets all day and everything, after the initial three weeks of training, anyways.
I'm going to have to get myself a better laptop, and maybe a better phone, so I can watch downloaded stuff on the way back and forth from work, and maybe surf the interwebs.

Lol.
Nice one on getting work and paid, like.
I don't think you could can really do badly on those interviews with those sort of questions. As long as you don't answer, "duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh". It wouldn't make sense that you can explain Apache and Linux without being a little bit technically knowledgeable.
I couldn't explain what a Linux is, by the way :/

Was there today. The guy wot interviewed me there had the charisma of a dead fish or something, which put me off a bit. Probably didn't do awesomely well, not to mention that I wasn't ready for an outright interview, wot with the person doing the first interview making it seem like this visit was just a formality. I still think I have a fairly good chance of getting it though.
I actually like the place. Large open spaces, both horisontally and vertically. Brilliant atmosphere, like. They had me listen in to a guy working there doing calls, and that guy and I talked for a bit in between. Kewl guy.
I won't be able to come here during work hours, though. They only let you check a few select ones, a bit paranoid, methinks.

Weird day.
First I lose that job (fucked up the interview yesterday, they tell me) despite it being a sure thing.
Then I do one of those panicked job-application-sprees where I go from site to site and apply for everything I'm qualified for, and a whole lot I'm not.
The this dude calls me like an hour later, and he's in this restaurant where a bunch of children are screaming, and he does like a weird interview. And then he says that he's going to send my information onward, and how much do I want, money-wise.
TBH, I'm feeling a bit lost on what they want me for, but it's worth trying, if they want me.
not saying I got it yet, like, I'll have to see what the company wot he's sending me to says. I'm gonna be programming in C# and asp n' stuff, apparently.

After three months of looking for a job, and losing a sure thing for the second time, I was starting to feel a bit like The used to seem. Then the other guy called, and I went from depressed pessimist to optimist again in about five minutes.

Dunno about bipolar, but my mood goes up and down a bit these days.
Some bloke called and woke me up. He wants me to work on some web page, he wants me to fix its errors, make it load faster, if possible, and check whether I can add some sort of database, or sort out the existing functionality so things load faster.

He's sending the files tomorrow. The site looks a frightful mess, and he wants it optimised, which I'll have to ask him exactly what that entails, 'cos conventions don't seem to apply to him, he seems a bit of a noob.
Also, they just rang me up about the other IT-support gig, the really well paid one, and I got an interview for that, apparently. And their's another one they may be interested in me for on top of that.
You see what I'm dealing with here? One day it appears no one wants me, and I lose my second last chance. The next four companies tell me they are interested.

I should be busy with school work, but I'm doing the thing where you think the course is complete bollocks so you don't put much effort in and consider joining the army, like.

Go for the really well paid IT support gig. Moss with money ftw. It's looking rly promising, so I might well do that. Apparently it's not even a real interview, already passed another a while back. This thing next week is just me getting to know them, and vice versa. If it goes well, and I like 'um, I'm taking it, I think. Some other guy called me and asked me if I'd be interested in working as a web developer consultant, but it pays less. He was supposed to have gotten back to me yesterday or today, but I guess I'll hear from him next week. Also, the website guy rly wants me to work with him, it seems. But that's not full time, like, and it's on a project-basis. One website at a time, that sort of thing. Gonna try and see if I can have a meeting with him next week. It's starting to feel as if I'm hiring him, rather than the other way around, going by the fact that I'm starting to feel as if I'm bossing him around telling him what needs to be done on the site and that. He'll be paying me, though. At least I don't have to rely on the evil hags, like. @darth: I had periods like that when I felt I lost too much time online, my grades in a couple of courses I took really reflect that. Taking a break now and then from the interwebs is a good idea all right. As for the course, just remember that you can alwas stick it in your cv, later. According to some people I've talked to, they look for and like all sorts of useless crap. Like ethics, and RUP. It may seem like shit, but it'll probably appeal to someone checking your papers, later. Over here they also look for "balanced" grades, apparently. meaning that while they do want you to do reasonably well, they don't want you to have had top marks in every course. 'cos that may indicate your are socially incompetent. That's good to remember if you don't do so well, like. Or join the army.

You could take on the well paid job and get good money and also do development work on a consultancy basis. Doing jobs as and when you feel like it, on a contract basis.
That way you can have good money coming in and if you feel like it make shitloads more and if you don't feel like it you can pish about.
